Marcia Kuehl

My sewing board sets up nicely in front of my fireplace and lives in the hallway closet when company comes.

While my studio is under construction, my dining room is currently my working area - My Bernina has a temporary home on the dining table and behind it is my quilt rack - which contains projects which are in varying stages of completion.

Beads, ribbons and other doo dads which are for current projects are displayed on top of a silverware chest.  The rest of them are stored under the dining room table in plastic boxes.

My rulers (in an acrylic holder) and other tools live on a long but skinny sofa table behind my dining room table - while they are readily accessible - I can't wait until they are back in the studio.

The bulletin board, located by my front door, is overflowing with postcards, exhibit notes, and my first place ribbon from Camp Watch-a-Patcher.

My dining room table serves in three capacities, sewing, design, and cutting.  The chair in the right corner has a pile of waiting to be quilted tops.  Thank goodness for portable table size ott lights, as the lighting is very poor at night.

The new studio is under construction - but parts of it are working, sort of.  It was my working library when I was an aspiring college professor, but upon completion, I will be able to work in it - instead of using it for storage.  Currently, only my sewing thread has a home behind the door - eventually all my threads (for quilting and decorative) will have racks and hang on the wall behind the door - it is easy to access - can't wait to consolidate the boxes strung all over the place.

The closet was the first conversion done and houses selected fabrics, books, threads, and patterns.  The closet covers the length of the room, with three ceiling to floor sections.  One section is for commercial battik, one for high end fabric by other artists, and one for staples and books.  This is the top of the third section, which currently has black and whites, books, and fat quarter moda collections.  Eventually, the front of the closet will be covered in flannel for my design wall.

The top two white cupboards house fabrics which I have dyed or manipulated, commerial patterns for ideas on the top of the cabinet, and a shelf for the cat to sleep (she is camera shy).  The shelf is actually a six drawer hutch which has all my specialty hand-dyed fabrics from my favorite fiber artists.  In the far corner, is a hutch which contains all my threads, papers, stabilizers, and other products which do not need to be on display, but need to have easy access to.
